THE BRIEF/

To develop a short documentary video on training & capacity building of adolescent girls and involving them with the community. The video had to show their active participation in emergency rescue, first-aid, and reduction of gender-based violence and psychosocial care. It also had to portray how they’re aligning with the specialized response forces and shelter management committee members in conducting mock drills and participation in real disaster scenarios.

STRATEGY/

UNFPA and Odisha State Disaster Management (OSDM) formed an effective team for responding to the devastating cyclones in coastal Odisha. For advocacy purposes, SYU initiated this assignment by conducting intense research on the subject and attaining mock drills around Odisha’s coast. This exercise was quite insightful for our team in understanding the global efforts of UNFPA. We followed the design process to create the content for a wider audience.  Not only did the process trigger ideas within us to derive stories inspired by real-life incidents, but it also helped the adolescent girls and their parents speak up for the skills ideally suited for disaster response. Although pre-production always plays a critical role in our storytelling, this time every contextual research in civilian life brought immense surprises for our narrative. Then, it took a highly skillful camera crew and multiple cameras set up to make this communication possible.
